Do you want your child to be successful in school and more likely to succeed in life? READ, READ, READ! I am Kathy VanDeventer the Media Specialist at Dillard Drive Elementary and I would love to see your child in the library borrowing books EVERY DAY!
Before I became the Media Specialist I taught grades K-5 for 13 years. I am Nationally Board Certified, have a Masters Degree in Library Science, and am a certified teacher for grades K-6, in addition to gifted and special education. I have been the Media Specialist at Dillard Drive Elem. since August 2006.
I am married and have two children, Heather and Andy. They are grown-up and very busy working and reading. In my spare time I love to travel, play tennis, kayak, and read. My very favorite thing to do is to read books to kids, especially funny books. A sense of humor is necessary- as you can see my family rarely has their feet on the ground!

My husband, Rich, loves to be off the ground in planes, roller coasters, zip lines, and even in trees.

According to the Children’s Reading Foundation:
The Value of Literacy
Children who read succeed, in school and in life. The simple act of enjoying books together every day from birth through elementary school establishes essential reading skills while building warm relationships. Your love and time are priceless. The reading skills you nurture are worth a quarter of a million dollars. For every year you read with your child, average lifetime earnings increase by $50,000. You make a $250,000 gift to your child by reading aloud just 20 minutes a day!
This bold statement is supported by a multitude of research on the impact of reading to children. Click on the link to read more! Do some research of your own – at your nearest LIBRARY!
